Everyday cleaning
For day-to-day upkeep, this is genuinely all it takes: rinse the mat under running water, or wipe the silicone with a damp cloth, then stand it up or lay it flat to air-dry. That’s it. There’s no need to scrub, and no need to clean it after every single use — the stone surface refreshes itself between uses as moisture evaporates away.
Avoid soaking the mat in water or putting it in the dishwasher. Harsh detergents and strong surfactants can build up in the stone and reduce how well it absorbs over time, so plain water is genuinely the best choice.
Preventing stains before they happen
This is the single most useful thing to know: the stone absorbs whatever liquid touches it — which is exactly what makes it work, but it also means strongly coloured liquids can leave a mark. This lifts away the very top layer, taking surface marks with it and reopening the tiny pores that do the absorbing. Wipe away the fine dust with a dry cloth, and the mat is ready to use again.
If it stops absorbing as quickly
Over months of use, the small pores on the surface can gradually become clogged with residue, which slows absorption. The fix is simple: stand the mat somewhere well-ventilated to dry out fully, then give it a light pass with the sanding pad. Both steps restore its performance — no replacement needed.
